Husqvarna 128DJx 17-Inch 28cc 2-Stroke Gas Powered Straight Shaft String Trimmer/Brush Cutter with Detachable Shaft (CARB Compliant) Reviews
I purchased this trimmer because I needed a new one to replace my old white outdoors line trimmer. I recently Purchased a new home with 2 1/2 acres and wanted something that could stand up to trimming and brush cutting and would last a long time. I have cut trees 1 1/2 inches thick with the brush cutter and haven't slowed it down yet. Great product, well built, and made to last. I would recommend this to a friend. I am very happy with my purchase. This definitely will outlast those small use em a year and toss em line trimmers.
I bought this trimmer as an 'upgrade' for a Homelite trimmer I had used for years. The day it arrived, I took it out of the box, put gas in it (from the same can I always had used for my old weed eater) and started it up. So far so good. I took it out to some high grass to try it out and it would barely cut it, running very uneven, and finally dying. I called a local servicing dealer, told him the symptoms and the first thing he told me was that the new 'CARB' compliant models have very small carb jets and they clog VERY easily. He would be happy to look at it, but if there was anything in the gas at all, the company would NOT PAY FOR THE SERVICE, even though I had had it running a total of 5 minutes tops. I took it in and after a couple of days he called and advised that there was dirt in the gas and he could not get it covered under warranty so I owed him $60 bucks. I didn't have a lot of choice, so I paid him and got it back. Well it now will run ok, but power-wise, I think it has less power than my old Homelite, definitely not very impressive considering the cost. If I had to do it over again, I think I would get the Poulan at about half the price. I definitely would not buy anything 'CARB' compliant if that is how sensitive they all are (which is the impression the dealer gave me).PS. I own a Husqvarna chain saw (rancher) and it works great (pre 'CARB' compliant) so I don't have any axe to grind with the company.
I purchased the Husqvarna 128DJx a few days ago. Got it over night. Went right to work with it. Very pleased with it. Only took a few minutes to put together. Added gas, two pulls and it started right up. After 20 to 30 minutes it started to bog down a little. I closed the choke about a 1/4 closed and it was fine. Ran like a champ. I think the factory is setting the carburetor to lean. It should be set richer. Especially when it's new. As for the trimmer itself. I can't find one thing wrong with it. It cut for over an hour. Some weeds were over an inch thick and I had no problems. One more thing. I was going to get a four stroke. (oil in the crank case) for the people that don't know this. I've been told that the 4 stroke engines use a lot more gas. I decided to get the 2 stroke. I very glad I did. It's very efficient on gas. Ran full throttle for over an hour on 3/4 tank of gas. If your looking for a real stout well built weed eater then this one will do you good. Thanks and good luck.Hollywood.
The unit works well as the bush cutter; I have not yet tested the grass trimmer function. I share the opinion expressed in one of the earlier revious that the factory setting of the cold start mode is not the best: the engine appears not get enough enough fuel.
Okay. The item arrived looking like the box had been drop-kicked a few hundred times, but no damage was visible. I'm returning this piece of junk for the follwing reasons:1) One of the parts was not correct. Of course it had to be the very first item to assemble.2) I called Husqvarna to ask them about the part. I was put on hold three times while the genius there tried to find my model number (128DJx) on his computer.3) After several attempts he finally found the product and said he would send the part out and I should get in two to three weeks. IN TWO TO THREE WEEKS????Needless to say. The box the trimmer came in will be used again, held togther with tape and I only hope it arrives at Amazon better than it arrived here. Both Amazon and Husqvarna didn't win any points from this once loyal customer!
Just tried out my new Trimmer and Edger and it works like a charm. Just edged about 50-75' of badly over grown beds and it cut deep enough so the centipede grass roots were cut thru so I could treat the unwanted grass with Roundup without killing grass outside the cuts. Had an estimate from a landscaper of over $250.00 to edge these beds so I thought I'd do it myself and am I glad. Now for my money I have a tool so I can stay ahead of the job.
