The quality of this cabinet is unbelievable for the price. Was looking for a wood medicine cabinet and was shocked at the high prices. This cabinet is solid wood and did not have to be put together like some other cabinets. It is as nice as $250 cabinet from Pottery Barn. I love the old-fashioned lock also. The shipping price was high, but it is very heavy. Even with the shipping, the price was great for the quality of the item. Great buy!!!
I bought two of these at Home Depot and I must say, it's a nice little cabinet for a great price. The crown molding at the top is sharp and you can fit a decent amount of items in it. They come with two pre-drilled holes in the top of the unit, which is pretty silly. You should always get at least one hanging screw in a stud, and use a heavy-duty anchor with the other mounting screw. There's little to no chance you're going to get a stud lined up with one of their holes and have the cabinet where you want it. It's really a not so smart design. My biggest complaint with the product, however, is Zenith's QC. The first cabinet's door hinge didn't match up level with the latch. The door closes just fine, but it doesn't look all that wonderful; not a deal breaker though. The second cabinet, however, had many defects in the front mirror. I didn't notice them until I got the cabinet hung in my well lit bathroom. They're all little black spots at the bottom, below eye-level, so it's not that bad, but it just makes me a little angry that they're there.I called Zenith customer service because each cabinet came with a little flier that says to call them first if there's any problem! Ok, I called them first and asked for a new door. Customer service was pleasant, but the answer was emphatically, no way. They told me to take it back. I explained that it's already hung and that's not an acceptable answer. I asked again for them to send me a new door, and again, the answer was, no way. They said I should have inspected the unit more carefully before hanging it. I said maybe their QC department should have inspected it better before packing it for shipping. The moral of the story is, if you're going to buy one of these, get it at a local home store and inspect it very carefully before hanging. I would be very cautious of buying one online, because I was two-for-two with units with some sort of defect. Trying to ship one of these back to an online reseller would be a nightmare.EDIT: I've noticed prices fluctuating wildly on this item. Don't pay more than $105 for this.
I purchased this cabinet from the seller Wayfair. The cabinet arrived in what looked like decent condition, but when it was mounted, I noticed the joint in the frame at the bottom left corner of the mirror had a small gap. I didn't worry much about it -- this is a greatly reduced price as compared to some place like Restoration Hardware -- so I was going to live with it. Then the door split from the cabinet at that joint leaving the cabinet on the wall and the mirror and three sides of it's frame in my hand. Fortunately, the glass (there are two mirrors inside, front to back) didn't come sliding out and shatter causing injury. Upon inspection, I noticed that the four sides of the frame, particle board, are glued together and reinforced with dowels at the joints. The dowels at the bottom left corner were missing. I contacted Wayfair, went around and around trying to explain via e-mail that this was not damaged in shipping, that it was defective. I was finally told that they would ship a new one but it wasn't currently available and I would have to wait 3-4 weeks for delivery, until Jan 5. Here it is Jan 6, I have no medicine cabinet, and my ability to file an a-z claim expired three days ago. What a coincidence. Stay away from this cabinet and Wayfair (I learned later they are one of Walmart's major suppliers, if that tells you anything).
I bought this from a home impovement store about 4 years ago and in the first year, a mysterious, unexplainable chip in the coating appeared in the bottom corner of the door. The pressed board in the exposed corner keeps swelling bigger and bigger. In the following years, little cracks in the finish along the edges of the bottom border have been appearing and getting bigger, no doubt swelling up from the humidity everytime someone takes a shower. We do have (and use) an exhaust fan.Coincidently, around the same time we also purchased, from Kmart this time, an over the toilet storage cabinet with frosted glass doors and rounded corner shelves. It looks like the same manufacturer. The same thing is happening to the finish on that cabinet as well. No chips yet, just the cracking and eventual lifting of the finish. This is a defect in the quality of the finish. Being that the product is made for use in a humid environment, the finish should have been waterproof, applied thicker and completely covering the pressed board to prevent any exposure, therefore swelling.I found no other defect in the cabinets. They seem solid and the doors all line up fine. I thought of painting the units, but the seams of the doors are so tight, I'm not sure if there is enough clearance to accomodate the thickness of even one coat of brushed or rolled paint. Spray paint might be an option if it weren't already hanging on the wall.I wouldn't purchase this for a room with a shower in it. It would be better suited for a 1/2 bath.
