For the price this is an amazing welder. I have welded sheet metal 18 gauge to 3/8" plate(triple pass) Welded car panels, exhausts, and vehicle axle mounts. I am now welding a lot of 1/4" metal right now and this will just barely do it (though that is my fault for not getting a welder built for it). On the highest heat setting and very lower wire speed it will do it in one pass. It takes a very long time to weld it up though I have never hit the duty cycle cut off. I have had this for 2 years now. I haven't used gas with the welder yet. Note that this is only an 85amp welder and will need extra welding time or multiple passes for metals 3/16" and thicker. The spool gun is my favorite feature. I never have to worry about routing the gun cable straight. No wire kinks in the cable anymore. The spool takes up to 2lbs of wire. I have notice it is hard to get the spool in with out it unraveling. Every time I load a new spool the wire will kink inside the gun at one point as a wrap of wire unravels enough to slip off the spool. Though you only loose less than a foot of wire when it happens.I think they could have used a better wire feeder motor as some times you will get a slight variation of the wire feed speed. This may cause some sputtering in your weld depending on what your welding and if you don't have the wire speed set exactly right for what your welding. Also I wish the knob could be locked in place as it is all to easy to bump it. I have to check every time I am just about to start welding.I have used this for exhausts, general welding, vehicle frame mounts and cast iron to mild steel. I used it to do an axle swap on my Jeep with all new brackets on the axle and frame and welded threaded inserts to DOM for control arms. Though I recommend the next unit higher for heavier metals this can and will do it as long as you have the skill and time.My next purchase will be a 220v welder and I will be converting the spool gun to work on both. I wouldn't even consider getting the over priced welders made by other companies now that I tried one for less than half the price that still gets the job done.
