We used the Dap Kwik Seal kitchen & bathroom adhesive caulk along a tile & bathtub interface. We cleaned the area and dried it with paper towels. We then waited 36 hours before taking a shower and the caulk separated from the crack in long strips.
The product says "Tub and Tile" but if you use thia anywhere that get's wet, it puckers, and turns to mush. There's a reason it's so cheap.
After 2 solid attempts to apply this caulk to my shower this morning it is all mush again! I have to again spent an hour removing it all and making a big mess. I'll definitely be buying a different product today before I redo it. I rarely review products but this stuff is CRAP! Although it may work for areas that don't get wet it is NOT good for a shower or bath.
Oh, how much a single woman can learn to do in home improvements if only she has a tube or two of DAP Kwik-Seal White All-Purpose Caulk! I do and I did! Here is how:When I had my bathroom rebuilt--a necessity after discovering major water damage--I had to figure out how to hide/cover/disguise the fact that the sheet-rock guy didn't know what he was doing.Backstory: The previous owner and her real estate agent perpetrated a fraud when they sold this house with undisclosed thousands in hidden damages. Example: When I started peeling off the wallpaper in the major bathroom--to my utter horror--I discovered disgusting mildew and rotted sheet-rock that went up a good four inches. You see, there is, was a party-size whirlpool tub in that bathroom. Apparently, it had flooded over, not once, but many times, causing this major water damage to the two walls down-flow from the tub. In fact, the sheet-rock was so rotted, that I hit it with my open hand, and parts crumbled off.When the sheet-rock guy replaced the sheet-rock, he cut it off at that line left after I smashed the rotted part off. That line was at least four inches from the floor. So there was his big gap left between floor and sheet-rock. Meaning: the carpenter who added baseboard had to get tall baseboard, then glue the sheet-rock to the baseboard at the top because there was nothing for a nail to catch on as in usual sheet-rock that goes to the floor.Because of other factors this bathroom was left unfinished until recently when I decided to do it myself. That's where the DAP Kwik-Seal comes in. Oh, thanks to those who created this fine product! I stuffed caulk and stuffed caulk and stuffed caulk into the big gap between sheet-rock and baseboard (OK, the gap after gluing had let go was maybe a quarter-inch or more).Words cannot express how professionally the DAP covered that error in the sheetrockery. Either I am a home-improvement genius or DAP made me one! I was worried that the excess would ruin my paint job on sheet-rock and baseboard, but no, the excess wiped right off! No problem-o!Well, DAP sealed that gap so beautifully--wish I could add photos here to show you--that I decided to do more with this product. I started sealing those ugly gaps, small though they were, around my windows. Wow, more professional looks. Additionally, I know that a sealed windows helps reduce heating and cooling costs.Finally, I used the DAP on the tile in the guest bathroom where old caulk was looking tired and chipped. Cleaned it out, scrubbed it down, and caulked it all, including that window. Another wow!!Instead of an application tool, I use my finger to smush in and smooth out the caulk, leaving white, gooey stuff all over my fingers. No problem. Wipe off the excess, run some warm water, and wash as usual with soap and water.DAP Kwik-Seal Caulk is a product I will keep on hand to use again and again. It is excellent in all ways!
I also tried this product. Last weekend I went to my local Ace Hardware store and they recommended this DAP product to seal our shower stall. I cleaned the surface area as recommended, let, wiped the corners dry, with a compressor blew out any residual moisture and dried everything out. Then I sat for 48 hours of not being used. I them applied this product and we let it dry for 48 hours. It initially looked good, but today after a shower I just happened to touch it with my finger in the corner joints and it just pealed off!!! This product is TOTAL CRAP and GARBAGE... What a waste of my time to ever use this product.I originally told my father to get me GE Silicone II Bathroom Tub and Tile Sealant, but Ace told him this product. They are SO WRONG. Now it's got to be totally removed and replaced with some other sealant product like the GE. I am so totally disgusted and highly recommend buyers beware and AVOID this crappy product if you know what's good for you. This deserves 5 negative stars...
The seller should ensure that the product is not expired. I tried twice to seal my bathtub, making sure the area was clean and dry, but the caulk never sets up. I bought the same caulk at Home Depot and it worked great. It was a lot of work for a simple job.
I go thru this stuff the way some people go thru tissue! My most recent purpose for white Kwik Seal was while painting baseboards: I used this to fill in the gap between the baseboard and sheetrock that was too large for paint to fill. I've also used it to 'glue' peeling edges of wallpaper (works perfectly for that!) If you have a crack in your ceiling, don't use spackling paste, squeeze Kwik Seal in it, smooth it out and, because the Kwik Seal stays flexible, the ceiling crack won't reappear. It's super easy to spread as thinly as needed and can make tired-looking caulk around a tub or shower look fresh and new again. I especially appreciate that it is so easy to apply (I spread it with my fingers!) and cleans up quickly and easily.
