Wow. Another piece of junk Made in China. (What a surprise.)The question is, "When is a safe not a safe?" The answer is simple. When nothing you put in it is safe.In fact, the manufacturer warns you before you even open the cardboard box.WARNING! This product is not intended for the secure storage of all materials. Items such as firearms, other weapons, combustible materials, or medication should not be stored in this unit.How interesting. If none of the above items should be stored in this so called "safe", then how secure do you think you valuables such as jewelry or cash or anything else would be? The answer is they would not be secure at all.The reason the manufacturer warns you up front how insecure your items will be is because this cheap box can be pried open with a little screwdriver in less than 10 seconds. If you took your valuables and stuck them in the cardboard box this safe came in and then wrapped it in duck tape it would take much longer to open than it would take to break into the safe itself. That's how cheaply it is made.They call it the Keep/Safe, yet nothing you put into it will be "safe". :-)The fact is, if you want your valuables or important papers etc. to be "safe" then you're going to have to pay a lot more then the cost of this cheap box to accomplish the task. I recommend Barska safes. They are substantially more expensive, but you get what you pay for.Several reviewers state that this box is intended to keep children out and it will warn them of a tamper attempt. Not true. My 8 year old son on two separate occasions has opened up combination locks on cabinets in the garage by simply trying different combinations until it opened.My Amazonian friends, you have helped me so many times in choosing the right product that I wanted to make sure you knew the facts about this one.
I purchased this in order to keep my kids out of personal items in my room. Havent had a problem yet, but I remember snooping when I was a kid so I figured Id be safe now instead of regretting it later.Let me start by saying, this is a security box, not a safe. It makes it harder for people to access an item, it does not prevent theft. You can simply carry this away and open it with a hammer or pry bar later. It is good for keeping valuables, medicines, handguns, 'adult' items, away from prying eyes or little hands. It will not prevent their theft by anyone who does not care about it being obvious. You will need to buy a real SAFE for that, if you want to keep a burglur or motivated person from accessing your items, not a security box.My thoughts for this kind of item.... a child, teenager, coworker,or houseguest may want to snoop or discretely steal an item, but rarely do they want to get caught for it or make it obvious they did it. That is what this is for. If someone wants inside they can get in, but it will be obvious and they will be found out. Example: Your teenager will not steal your painkillers from this box without you seeing the box was pryed open or simply gone, getting your attention is not what they want. Same goes for playing with your handgun while you are away, or stealing some earrings to pay for a party they have planned. Also keeps housekeeper, coworkers, etc. from getting into something and making it obvious they did so. Think of it like the metal cash drawers used at picnics or charity events, they keep people from getting in, but doesnt keep someone from just leaving with the whole thing!Programing the security code was simple, only took a few minutes including the time to read the manual. You can also just use the key if you choose. This box fits perfectly inside my dresser drawer, the dial to open the safe just barely rubs the top when opening/closing the drawer, so be sure to check your dimensions prior to ordering if that is what you are planning. The box is relatively lightweight, so if you plan on unsing it as a mobile security box, it will suit your needs. The box seems well made, yet lightweight. Wont stop a motivated person from getting access, but it will stop a 'snoop' or someone who does not want it to be obvious they broke into it.Comes with 2 keys and simple instructions. Works perfectly, assuming you need a security box and not a safe. 'SentrySafe' is the name of the company, 'Security Box' is the name of this particular item.
Here is the pro: The size is good for pistol and some valuables. It sure can prevent CHILDREN from accidentally get your firearm. It is cheap and seems do the work.It use 4 AA battery and come with key for emergency unlock if the battery drained out (got to remember where you put the keys :) ).Con: It feels filmsy compare to other safe. The weight lighter than others also tell this. The silver electronic key pad control made of plastic seems very easy to be broken.When you open the safe, you can find that the whole piece is completely plastic in and out. I am curious if people can access it by just broken the plastic part.
The bolt is held in place with a piece of thin plastic. The lid will pop open just moving the box. The piece of plastic breaks and the bolt falls out. The box pops open with spring loaded door.
thin metal weak lock buy a different one. the safe stopped working after a couple of months. i would go with a more heavy duty model. the buttons stopped working
I purchased this safe as an inexpenive safe for my 13 year old son.. just a spot to keep a little cash and trinkets.His older brother was fiddling with it the first night, just trying to see if he could show him up by figuring out his PIN code. Well, when he couldn't, he just jerked on the knob with his bare hand, and it broke, and opened! I took the mechanism apart and discovered the entire latching system was made of flimsy plastic.I wouldn't recommend this safe for ANYTHING, as it offers security only against someone with the strength of a small child.
