You can buy the entire kit just about anywhere for $85 with the ceiling fan adapter included. This price is just stupid!
If you've ever installled/replaced a light switch, this install isn't much more complicated than that. The receiver unit mounted nicely within the fan canopy as the description states. The wall control panel was similarly an easy set up. Like most new paddle/rocker switches, the wall unit was deeper than the toggle switch it replaced. And because there were several original romex lines coming into the box, it was a very tight fit. Wrangling the 12 gauge wires above the fan and in the wall outlet was the only hard part of the install. It's worth checking behind your existing switch before installing this to make sure you will have room. The switch is nice and clean looking. There is a Lutron logo etched into the lower paddle but because it's not colored in any way and it's a shallow etching, it's not visible unless you're very close to the switch. The documentation was surprisingly clear and outlined each step. My only uncertainty is a slight hum as the fan speeds are cycled thru the dimmer settings. I'm guessing I never noticed it before because pulling the old pull-chain usually made more noise that covered the sound of the motor getting more/less power. It's only a momentary noise but one that I will watch carefully as time goes by. This was a good price (below the $85 another negative review wanted). I ordered additional switches to replace all the other fan controls after this first good experience.
I have a home theater with a ceiling fan and light. The fan had its own remote, but it was RF so I couldn't train my existing multifunction remote to control it. This product may be for a niche market (since RF is generally better), but I'm glad it existed and didn't mind paying the price. It will work on any ceiling fan, mind you, even one with chains, but I was replacing an existing remote so it was a very easy install. It works great, and now when I press "Play" for a movie, the lights dim as part of my macro! Also, there is a button on the remote for a 'favorite' setting, which for me is 50%, so I can press "ON" for full, "Fav" for 50%, or "OFF" for off. Very convenient.One warning. According to the tech support, the IR code for the light matches all other Maestro lights. In my case, I wanted individual control over the other lights in the room so I had to buy a non-Lutron IR switch, otherwise the fan-light and sconces would all go on at the same time. Either way, the fan is its own code.
