Intex Ultra Frame 16-Foot by 48-Inch Round Pool Set Reviews
When I first read about the saltwater pool I was hesitant, all I could think of was how the water was at the coast. My skin is always sticky after I get out and the taste when it gets in your mouth ugh! My younger sister said to me "oh you will love the saltwater , it will be so good for your skin, and it won't make your eyes burn and turn red." So I decided to go ahead and get the saltwater pool and guess what? We all love it and the water stays crystal clear hardly any work to maintain, just clean out the filter and skimmer and swim , swim , swim. Here in the hot sunny days of central Texas, a cool refreshing dip in the pool is very nice. I would buy another one if my yard was bigger!
We bought this pool on sale in August 2010. It took us about a week to get it setup because we had to take it down once to get the land level - it seemed level but once we started filling the pool we noticed how off it was so we started again. Now we are maybe an inch off from one side to the other but have had no issues whatsoever. We filled the pool with salt and ran the pump and salt water generator as instructed. The pool has been up now for three weeks and is crystal clear and clean without any additional chemicals. We absolutly love how easy it is to keep clean. We got a solar cover as well which warms the pool somewhat but makes "heat spots" more than warming the entire pool - but that is OK because pools are meant to cool off! We swim in the pool everyday and cover it when not in use. We found we only have to vacuum one a week and the pool is under trees. The size is perfect for our family of four - we can even fit a few relatives and still have more personal space than when we go to the public pool!
I am a 62 year old woman and I put this pool up by myself in 2 hours. The hard part was leveling the ground. That did take me a couple days work. I had a pretty good slope to deal with. Once that was done I had watched the videos and just started putting it together. In 2 hours I had the pool filling with water on Saturday and went swimming Sunday afternoon. The extra couple inches in the 52" pool compared to the 48" are well worth it if your someone who likes to swim. I haven't had it up long enough to know how well the cleaning system works but if it's anything like the rest of the product I'm sure it will be just fine.Amazon.com had the best price I could find and the free shipping worked very well. The company contacted me and we worked out the delivery. I did have to open the box to unload my truck in pieces instead of the whole box at one time but each item was packed in it's own box so there was no problem with that either.
My parents bought this pool for us for my 34th birthday! ;) It was the perfect thing for me as my bday's in April and I was 21 weeks pregnant with baby #3 at the time with the long, VERY hot SoCal summer ahead of me!! Setup was easy enough that even our boys (5 & 8) got to help out with some of the setup. The ladder could be a bit sturdier but is better than some and we'll be replacing it soon enough with a different one. This pool is the same as the 54451E only it comes with the saltwater filtration system/pump instead. The pump/filter is a workhorse at 2000 gph, it's the Water Filtration Pump with a Built-in Chlorine Generator model #56611. Definitely a great deal with this package!!All in all, an excellent deal, excellent quality...just...EXCELLENT!
I bought this pool from Amazon the beginning of May 2011 for $799.00 delievered to my front door. I was a bit worried even though the reviews were very good on this pool. I leveled the ground myself. It was pretty flat to begin with but I didn't want any issues with it when I began to set it up. The delievery truck showed up as scheduled and the truck driver had a hand truck and a lift tailgate thus making and easy drop off in my driveway. The box was pretty big and had one tear in it but nothing was damaged inside. Inside the box were smaller boxes which made it easy for me to bring everything into the back yard. I used the help of another person to get the liner in place and facing the right direction with the filter ports in the right spot. The pool and frame went together easily in about an hour. It took me much longer to level the ground than to assemble the pool. But as in any job the prep work always takes the longest. I filled the pool overnight and then put in about 170 pounds of salt. This pool is almost 7000 gallons and salt cost about 40 bucks. The filter really surprised me. I expected a piece of junk but was pretty impressed with the water flow. The salt water chlorine generator and copper ion producer is what really blew me away. It's been almost a month and the water is chrystal clear. I never get slimy alge building up on the sides. And no cloudy water. Even with the annoying Florida Love Bugs that swarmed the past few weeks I had no problems. The vacuum accessories that come with it, while not being the best, do the trick. Only the ladder that came with it is a bit flimsy and I think if you're over 200 pounds you'll have some trouble on it. I have already been in it almost every day since I got it and I can honestly say it was well worth the money and I would indeed recommend this pool to anyone. This is one of the best investments I have made in a long time!!
This review spans a 2 week period of dealing with intex. I will let you know if I manage to get through the summer with a SINGLE working pump.I wanted to wait a year before I wrote a review. I bought this package June 2008. It worked great up until about a week ago. Pump died no led, no lights nothing. I called intex to get a replacement because mine had a 2 year warranty. Although, they wanted me to believe it was only a year. Sent me a replacement pump. Plugged it in NOTHING no led no lights. Just got off the phone with Intex because NOW I need a replacement for the replacement. Stated they would be happy to send me another REPLACEMENT, but I get to pay to ship the original replacement back. Around $50. I asked why they didn't want the first one & they stated that they will let you keep the first non working pump, but they want all the other replacements. So, I guess I get to keep paying for their lack of quality control until one actually works. I am waiting now for a manager to call.Waited a week for a manager to call. MANAGERS DON'T CALL.Because they don't exist. I was STUPID enough to buy another intex salt generator pump. I thought since it looked different it would work. Maybe they had worked the kinks out in 2 years. It worked for a WHOLE 4 days. It shuts itself off after about 5 mins. Chlorine generator NEVER turns on.I now have 3 intex pumps & NONE of them work. I would only recommend this pool if you have money to BURN every summer on several new pumps. Don't expect the pump to be anything above disposable. The rest of the pool is still in good shape. P.S. I would like to thank Intex for their LACK of quality control on their Chinese made Junk...... THANKS INTEX.........Hey! Just got off the phone with intex & was told by the 3rd intex customer service rep that MANAGERS can't over ride the shipping fee. I asked why other reps would state they could & she stated that "with all due respect you are speaking with me now" Thank goodness... I'm speaking with YOU, I wasn't sure exactly with whom I was speaking with. So, no answer on the return shipping fee override. This 3rd individual whom shall remain nameless is by far the MOST RUDE, CONDESCENDING "customer service" rep yet.But guess what kids.......I'm sending the replacement back. Keep you postedP.S. You should check the BETTER BUSINESS BUREAU of Los Angeles for Intex recreation corp's rating. I'm sorry I didn't before buying this. I just went by all the great ratings on this & other sites.06/2010 Okay, I wanted to let everyone know about my intex pool. The second replacement pump for the first pump is still running. This is it's third month of service. I have a spare one(first replacement for second purchased pump)when this one dies.I think that intex has a GREAT concept whenever their pumps & pools work. I think that I expected more for something that cost this much. So, if you go with the idea that the pumps will run for ONE summer & the liners will hold most of the water for ONE summer you will not be disappointed. The salt is also hard on the metal posts & ladder so they will begin to rust usually the second year.If you get more than one summer of use consider yourself fortunate. This will be my LAST year for intex...... We are putting in an IN GROUND pool in August YEA:0)......
We purchased this pool in May and very impressed with the saltwater system that came with it. We have it run 4 hours per day and it works great. Had to add 125 lbs of pool salt to start it up but just follow the directions and it works like a charm. This is our third intex pool and highly recommend the ultra-frame design. Tip - keep the skimmer clean and clean the filter once a week. The saltwater system needs good water flow and will beep like an alarm if the flow is too low. The only bad part so far is the bottom rope - our miniature dacshound ate through it and the filter pipes. We covered the filter pipes with 3" flexible drain pipe so he can't get to the actual pipe anymore. Also, the pool legs have started to kick out but that's probably because of the rope issue. We have a 12 yr old and two eight year olds in this pool every day with their friends and so far so good.
We had previously had an Intex quick set pool which was pretty good but when I saw these Ultra-Frame pools I was a bit worried about the quality. Well let me say I was pleasantly surprised and am very happy with my purchase. These pools, while not nearly as study as a traditional above ground pool, are very well made and the price is cheap by comparison. Below I've categorized our experience as a whole and while not perfect due to some shipping issues, overall it's been worth it.1. Shipping - Unfortunately we had some issues. First the carrier (delivered by freight) failed to show up on two different scheduled delivery dates. Second, the box the pool is delivered in was in pretty rough shape and had essentially split open once off the truck. Also keep in mind this thing is very heavy, took a dolly for me to move it around myself, once I'd taped the box back together that is. Luckily Amazon did refund our shipping costs due the the carriers failure to deliver as scheduled.2. Pool Setup - The pool itself couldn't be simpler to setup. Just be absolutely sure you have firm, level ground to place the pool on, it's critical. Other than that, just layout the ground cloth, spread the liner out and snap the frame together, stand it up and start filling with water. Not tools required. Honestly the supplied stairs were harder to setup than the pool and those were pretty easy too.3. Filter Setup - The filter is a Saltwater/Filter combo in one unit and again, it's very simple to setup. Thread in two plunger valves to the pool liner, thread on the inlet screen and outlet jet, then thread in two hoses to the valves an then the filter unit. Done, and again, no tools required. Of course you need to have an available GFCI (Ground Fault Circuit Interrupt) outlet close by and I'd recommended investing in an outdoor rated extension cord if you use one. Once the filter is running, you add your salt and let it dissolve for 24 hours. Next you just program the saltwater chlorine generator to run for the recommended 5 hours per day and your done.4. Included Maintenance Kit - The pool comes with the following included accessories in the maintenance kit and all are of pretty good quality. Surface skimmer - Just attach to the side of the pool and connect to the filter pump inlet. The skimmer traps any debris floating on the surface. Pool Vac - this attaches to the skimmer when needed and allows you manually vacuum the bottom of the pool. It has it's own screen to prevent clogging your filter. Net / Brush - Each attaches to the same pole as the Pool Vac and their use is obvious I think.I would highly recommend this pool for anyone who isn't looking for a permanent above ground pool. These are great for do-it-yourself types, seem well made, and should last a few seasons if taken care of.
This pool is perfect for what we needed. Set up was about an hour with (3) peaple. We had a 15' x 42" non-metal frame Intex pool for the last couple of years and the maintenance of the water was driving me crazy! We live in a wooded area and the water was near impossible to keep clear. The saltwater system has solved our problem! The pool has been up for a month and the water is crystal clear! Set up took 120lbs. of pool salt (about a $15 investment) and it gets vacuumed about twice a week with the vacuum supplied in the purchase. We wash the filter about twice a week also. No other chemicals have been added. The water does not burn or dry out your eyes and does not leave any trace of salt on your body or clothes, unlike natural salt water. Those of you living near an ocean or Gulf know what I mean. All in all we could not be happier. With the savings from buying chemicals I have constructed a wooden deck patially around the pool. We love the pool and ease of maintenance!!!
We purchased this pool about a month and a half ago after a heat wave that was almost unbearable. We did a bit of research and found it was nearly the same price to have this pool shipped to our doorstep as is was to purchase at any local store. (and they were all out of stock!)Setup was very easy. 2 DVD's give you the basics and the detailed written instruction manuals (at least 4) lay out the proper salt and control information. We had the pool built and ready to fill in less than an hour. 3 40LB bags of salt were needed and have not had to add any yet. The chlorine generator and pump are set it and forget it but the filter needs a good washout every week or so. The pool is very durable and only leaked once because of our dog. A fence fixed that. This pool is great fun and have recommended it to friends!
