Worm Factory 360 WF360T Worm Composter - Terra Cotta Overviews

Composting with worms allows you to turn kitchen scraps, paper waste and cardboard into nutrient-rich soil for your plants. The Worm Factory 360 composting system makes the entire process quick and easy. With a thermo siphon air flow design, the Worm Factory 360 increases the composting speed. Now you can produce compost much faster than traditional composting methods. Master Gardeners agree, worm castings are one of the richest forms of fertilizer that you can use. The Worm Factory 360 can be used indoors or outdoors allowing year round production. Now composting is no longer limited to backyards. The Worm Factory 360 is odorless making it great for apartments, kitchens, garages, porches and more. Simply add a handful of worms and your organic waste to the bottom tray. The worms will start processing the food. Once the bottom tray is filled add another tray. The worms migrate upward to the newest food source leaving the bottom tray full of nutrient-rich compost. As waste is broken down, moisture filters through the system, taking nutrient-rich particles with it. This makes it possible to harvest organic liquid fertilizer right from the spigot. 20 year warranty.

  • Worm Factory 360 WF360T Worm Composter - Terra Cotta Reviews

    1. I'm a huge fan of the Worm Factory products. I own three bins, one is the original and two are the 360. While the 360 has a few silly whistles & bells that the original didn't include (instructional DVD, a plastic rake my 3-year-old loves, a black thing called a "sprinkler" that I haven't figured out yet) it is worth the small additional investment for a few reasons:1. Higher capacity. The 360 maxes out at eight trays because of its sturdier base. If you plan to grow your colony this is important.2. Better lid. The lid on the 360 fits more securely and can hold trays while you are harvesting. Great feature.3. Thermometer. I bought a meat thermometer for use with my original Worm Factory, then found the 360 comes with one. Very handy when one of your trays is overheating.4. Pumice. They send you a generous quantity of pumice with the 360. This is great to sprinkle in the trays for moisture control and airflow.5. Better designed spigot. The spigot on the original isn't slanted down like this one, so it's tough to drain the leachate completely from the collection tray.6. Increased oxygen flow. The bottom tray sits up on risers to allow airflow in the leachate bin. This is a huge improvement over the original, where I had major issues with product quality once I reached maximum tray capacity. This is a super accessible product and you will not be disappointed.

    2. After reading Amy Stewart's book The Earth Moved: On the Remarkable Achievements of Earthworms, I was immediately taken with the idea of inviting these sweet little beasties into my home, or rather my backyard. Worm castings are great for starting seeds or container gardening of any kind because they are nutritious and help hold moisture in the soil or potting medium. I just scatter my spare castings into my vegetable garden to help improve the soil. The instructions with this bin will lead you to believe you should microwave your food scraps and chop them up tiny for your worms - but they're being way over-cautious. My worms seem perfectly happy with slightly shredded (all vegetable!) kitchen scraps (non-microwaved!), and the worms are about the lowest-maintenance "pet" I've had. I check on them whenever I add new kitchen scraps, every 3-4 days or so, and they rarely need anything from me beyond their lettuce and melon bits - every couple months some new shredded newspaper seems to be called for - other than that, they just churn out worm castings and take care of kitchen scraps in a pretty effortless way!If you want to be all gung-ho and learn about worm composting more, you can read Worms Eat my Garbage by Mary Appelhof. This does come with an instructional DVD though, so that will get you well on your way!(Note: This worm bin doesn't come with worms. You can buy red worms separately.)

    3. I purchased two Worm Factory 360 composters. My eighth-grade students are really excited about raising worms. I am picking up my worms today at the post office and will be adding them to both bins. I have even had other teachers tell me that my composter is all the buzz of student discussions. It was very well made, came with everything you need to get started (except the worms) and had easy to follow directions. My homeroom students loved the coir, and they all touched it in the brick form and also once we added the water to it. They have already asked if they can "name" the worms and have made signs for our "recycling center" in the classroom. I am very excited about teaching them how to be more environmentally friendly.

    4. I have the normal bin along with this one. The only real difference I see is the design of the bottom, it seems to let more air in by design and it also comes with pumice. Pumice is a type of volcanic rock, its supposed to help drainage and aeration in the soil. I assume they tested with this and decided it was helpful to the worms. Once the bin gets going well maybe I can comment compared to the normal bin. So far no smell or anything, working good.

    5. The worm factory is a great purchase. With the free shipping you can't beat the price anywhere else, trust me I checked. It is easy to set up and maintain. I really like that it is off the ground so when I shoot out my garage I don't need to move it. The lid doesn't have a lock but it stays on good. However I have 6 kids who like to check on the worms so I need to constantly check if they put the lid on again.
